The beauty of nature drives photographer Ann Collins to seek out and share grand scenic views, intimate landscapes, colorful seascapes, and creative outdoor abstracts. Born and raised in coastal La Jolla, she has an affinity for water and often features it in her images – be it oceans, bays, lakes, ponds, rivers, creeks, or waterfalls. “I love the movement of the water and the potential for amazing and vibrant reflections,” she says. She is the photographer and author of La Jolla: Jewel by the Sea (Sunbelt Publications, 2018), a coffee table book that depicts the beauty, essence, and history of her hometown in Southern California.
Collins enjoys traveling, especially to national parks and other public lands in the United States and Canada. She has lived, worked, and photographed abroad, always cherishing her photos as souvenirs of her travels. When she can capture an incredible place made even more photogenic due to dramatic weather conditions and lighting, the experience is exhilarating.
Collins’s images have been published in the prestigious Sierra Club calendars, Arizona Highways, Westways, Highlights for Children, and other magazines. While processing her photographic art in the digital darkroom of her computer, she strives to stay true to what she saw in the field. She hopes that her images draw the viewer into them to create a feeling of connection to the scene.
