GAA is an aggressive proponent of the importance of diversity of art in any setting. To this end, GAA takes in pride in offering a wide variety of artwork that spans multiple genres and mediums, and includes limited editions and originals, and local and commissioned pieces.
This includes, but is not limited to:
It might seem like a silly question, but it's really not. For many the idea that art is able to have a significant impact on a person's sense of wellness and well-being, and that, that in turn impacts their productivity, ability to heal, ability to release tension and anxiety, and their ability to redirect negative thoughts to positive thoughts, can seem abstract and intangible. But the amazing thing, and ongoing research in this area continues to demonstrate and prove this, is that the impact is very real. To the point that it's measurable.
Cool, huh?
As far as the 'why' though, it's all about spaces and people, and the building of bridges between them through evidence-driven experiential art design.
We spend the majority of our lives working, playing, studying, healing, exploring, resting, and moving through shared spaces.Spaces that we instinctively look to for information about where we are, what we're supposed to be doing there, and what we should think and how we should feel. This is what allows us to consciously and sub-consciously connect with the spaces that we inhabit and with the other people who share those spaces with us. It is through these connections that we shape our behavior. This is a product of our humanity.
Art matters because art helps to influence and shape those connections. How? Art is created by human beings for other human beings. The artist relies on our shared humanity to grant us the ability to respond emotionally, mentally, and even physically to their art. These responses make us feel; these feelings infuse our perception of the space we're in. These feelings and perceptions are then made tangible in our behavior and actions.
Ultimately, we are driven to connect with our spaces, and art is how we connect. Art is how we build bridges between ourselves and our spaces in order to create truly human-centric experiences.
Absolutely.
We can typically work with any kind of imagery ideas.
If you're thinking about a custom commissioned piece, we work with local artists nationwide. Or if you have a specific artist in mind, we'll gladly collaborate with them.
If you wish to provide us with an image or selection of imagery, we can provide file format and resolution requirements. Just ask!
Note: Image resolution matters! Especially if you're considering a larger piece, you will want to make sure you have access to a high resolution version of your image. Aren't sure if your file is workable? Just ask!
Yes! We frequently produce and frame photographs provided to us by our clients.
Yes! All the time.
The majority of our clients love to celebrate the communities they work and live in, and so often request local artwork by local artists. We're always ready and able to collaborate with a local independent artist to incorporate either some of their existing artwork, or, work with them on a new commission.
If you have a project that you think local art would be perfect for, contact us at projects@greatamericanart.com.

Note: Before you start on your art hunt, you may want to create an account and a new project. This will allow you to save any art that you find and customize, so you can easily pick up where you might leave off. Plus when you do engage with our design team, it will help facilitate the design process.
If you're an artist and you're interested in potentially being included in our catalog, you'll want to check out our "Become a GAA Artist" on our website, which walks you through the entire process. http://greatamericanart.com/become-a-gaa-artist/

Artwork that we install is commercial grade, and made to with stand traffic, cleaning, and more. Please see our Cleaning & Maintenance Guide, which goes through cleaning instructions for a majority of the materials we print on. But if you have a question, please feel free to reach out.
There are a number of variables that determine the final price of any particular piece. Until we've gone through the art selection process and made final decisions on imagery, substrate type, and so on, it is impossible to know for certain what final costs will look like. Things that affect the cost of a piece include:
Typically, think 1 piece of art for every 15 feet.
However design options can also come into play at this point.
Example: You have a 30 foot wall. You could place:
This is certainly one of the more common anxieties shared with us during the initial planning stages of a new project.
Never fear!
GAA not only has a world-class team of designers, but we also own the entire process - which includes manufacturing and production. This adds up to our ability to work within just about any budget!
If you're worried that you might have to settle for a substandard art installation, worry no more. We never settle for substandard, you shouldn't have to either.
No. GAA customers only pay for selected art pieces and any associated shipping and installation fees.
Simply, design is not decoration.
Design is a formal discipline that encompasses a thoughtful, methodical, targeted approach to crafting human experiences within a space. It requires specialized skill sets, a broad understanding of human psychology and human behavior, and a high degree of empathy.
In the hands of a designer, art is part of their design vocabulary. It's not about utilizing art simply to make things look pretty, or selecting a particular piece because it matches the upholstery. Instead, a designer focuses on the emotional or experiential story that needs to be told, and then uses art to evoke and help tell that story.
In a healthcare setting, that design story will likely be one of hope, renewal, healing, and reassurance. It may also need to be a story that seems immediately familiar, welcoming, and calming. It's the designer's goal to mitigate and dispel feelings of anxiety, disorientation, and pain. Instead, they work to create reflections of wellness and well-being.
In an office setting, that design story might be one of motivation, energy, and progress. In education, growth and discovery. In government, duty, focus, and service.
At the end of the day, a designer is a storyteller whose focus is not on picking complementary colors and fun patterns. A designer's focus is on infusing a space with desired emotions and crafting opportunities for human beings to connect with those emotions.
Evidence-Based Design (EBD) is a design methodology built on experiential design and research-driven best practices that acknowledges that human beings instinctively look to their environments for cues as to how they should feel, what they should think, and how they should act. Because of this, the growing body of work in EBD continues to show that shapes, textures, colors, and imagery within the spaces and environments that human beings inhabit are able to directly influence how a person thinks and feels.
Designers then apply Evidence-Based Design best practices with the goal of triggering specific emotional and cognitive responses within the people who utilize a particular space.
Does it matter if all of your artwork is pretty much the same in regards to style, imagery, color palettes, and size? Does it matter if the same kind of substrate (e.g. canvas or acrylic) is used throughout an entire installation?
It seems like it shouldn't, doesn't it? 'Art is art', and taking a cookie-cutter approach would certainly make the design work easier and faster. But! As it turns out, aesthetic diversity DOES matter and significantly so.
Why? Because of how our minds work. We are constantly scanning our environments and spaces for stimuli. Our brains are constantly looking for 'new' and 'different' (like a stalking tiger that might have just shifted its position). In order to maintain our awareness and sensitivity to new elements in our environments (like a tiger), our brains have evolved to tune out repetitions and patterns, dulling our perception and awareness of them.
A classic example of this in action is traveling to an unfamiliar place vs. traveling to a familiar place. Traveling to an unfamiliar place seems to take longer, because your brain is ingesting and processing all the 'new', and you find yourself picking out landmarks and other more subtle features in order to orient yourself. But travel those same pathways enough times, and you start letting your surroundings fade into the background to the point that now your trip seems much shorter, and you barely remember any of it.
This holds true for interior spaces as well, and things within those spaces. Like art and design! If everything is 'pretty much the same', our brain starts subconsciously tuning it all out - which is exactly the opposite effect that one wants after investing time, money, and effort into the implementation of an art program!
But designing with a diversity of art as a goal, ensures that the environments and interior spaces remain engaging and able to capture the attention of the people using and moving through them.
With the exception of government projects, we do not sell direct. If you are not currently working with an authorized GAA dealer, we will be more than happy to connect you with your local dealer (though we're still with you at every step of your project!).
Typically, we ask for 72 hours for a quote, assuming we have received all of the necessary information, such as:

Installation services are available on most jobs.

Other options may be available based on the selected art piece.
If you aren't sure, or are curious as to other potential options, just ask!
Security hardware allows you to 'lock' your wall art to the wall. This is often required in behavioral health and other healthcare facilities, may be recommended in certain cases (e.g. spaces where children may have access to the art), and in other cases not needed at all.
If you're unsure, we can help you determine whether security hardware is required for your project.
Sure thing! We have a variety of installation guides with detailed steps for installing pieces. Check them out here.
